Dev Rathore learned to cut in his uncle's shop in Leicester at fifteen, and spent ten years in London barbershops where the queue went round the block and the price went up every spring.
He opened Copperplate in 2019 with three chairs in the Northern Quarter and one rule: the price on the board is the price you pay. Ancoats followed in 2023. Nine barbers work across the two shops now, and most customers book the same one every time.
The work has not changed. A cut that suits the head it sits on, a beard done properly, a hot towel when the job calls for it. Both shops are open seven days until eight, because most of you finish work at six.

The things people ask before they book
How much is a haircut?
£28, and that includes a wash and styling. A skin fade is £32, a beard trim £18, cut and beard together £42, a hot towel shave £30, and under-12s £18. The price on the board is the price you pay.
Do I need to book?
Weekends and after five, yes, or you will wait. Weekday mornings you can usually walk in. Booking takes a minute on the contact page and there is no deposit.
Can I have the same barber every time?
Yes. Pick them when you book. About two thirds of our customers do, which is why the diary is busy.
Where are you?
the Northern Quarter, two minutes from Piccadilly Gardens, and Ancoats. Both open every day 09:00 to 20:00.
Do you cut children's hair?
Yes, under-12s are £18 for 25 minutes, same barbers, same chairs. Mornings are quieter if they are nervous.
What if I need to cancel?
Text the shop. No charge if it is more than two hours before. Repeated no-shows lose the right to book ahead, which seems fair to everyone else.
